Two Hollywood-size movie screens flanking the stage came to life when the pastor, Nelson Searcy, took center stage. He wore a microphone attached to his ear, and his 30-minute speech was more of a pep talk than a sermon. He mentioned Jesus occasionally, and tossed in a Bible verse here and there, but he really kept eyes focused and heads nodding with a series of clips on the screens: scenes from “Braveheart,” “Facing the Giants,” and a video of the church’s summer baptism, celebrated in the waters off a Long Island beach.
