Iranian president congratulates Christians on New Year

President Mahmud Ahmadinejad congratulated Christians and Christian heads of state on the arrival of the New Year on Monday.To my knowledge, we had nothing to do with the arrival of the new year. Seems something's getting lost in the translation. But the real question is the motivation behind this statement.
