Is 'Meaning of Candy Cane' OK in schools?

The U.S. Supreme Court was asked on Monday to consider whether a fifth-grade student's religious expression on a classroom project can be considered "offensive" and subject to censorship by school officials.

lol

it would help to know what the kid said was the meaning of a candy cane was. the real meaning of the candy cane is very very very very unimpressive. but there have been people attaching meaning to the candy cane that has nothing what so ever to do with it for years. the symbology of the parts of a candy cane is 0%. it is just a stick of candy that was given out at a chirch service in germany to keep the kids quiet while they were preaching, the hook of the candy cane was put there to keep the kids form dropping it, nothing more, nothing less, but people always try to add importance to things. i hope he got an F for not doing his reserch on the paper.

YES! The Meaning of the Candy Cane IS OK in Schools!

My 2nd Grader is doing an oral report on the candy cane, combining the consistent historical findings as well as legends surrounding its meaning. The fact that it originated in church where there is teaching on Jesus's birth would certainly make sense that it was offered as more than a candy stick. Yes, just as we tie in meaning for our children's learning today, I'm sure the choirmaster in Cologne Germany who worked with children did the same. Here is one article my child used for her report: http://www.noelnoelnoel.com/trad/candycane.html No "F" (for child nor teacher) with regards to research here, just freedom to choose a topic and not hide what is found to be true so long ago as well as today. Happy Holidays- original meaning "Holy Day" or special religious days: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holiday#Holiday
