Religious conservatives important in Iowa, but fissures appear

The role of Christian activists in the state is closely watched. That's because of Iowa's leadoff position in the presidential nominating season. There is little sign at this point that activists are uniting behind a candidate _ or trying to channel the race in a particular direction. It's still early in the campaign season, but it appears that religion will not be a major factor in the next election.
