Romney's religion under the microscope

Even in explaining the modern Mormon church, Romney must persuade voters - particularly evangelicals - that his faith is no threat to theirs.
A Mormon for president? It's one thing to have a Roman Catholic or even an atheist, but what about someone who's a member of the largest cult in America? Would that affect his presidency? And what about all those unpopular teachings that the LDS have since renounced, like polygamy and that blacks are cursed? This reminds me of that article about the WELS candidate and the doctrine of the Antichrist.

Romney for President

I find it kind of stupid all the emphasis on Romney's religion. Anyone who knows a Mormon or knows anything about them knows they believe in the same Jesus Christ as the rest of us and as far as I have seen they are more Christ like than most. To say that it would be better to have an atheist as president over a man who believes and lives the standards that Jesus Christ set for all of us is outrageous if coming from a Christian writer. I think this country needs some fresh guidance. Mormons are a very strong part of American history and I think supporting a strong, positive, moral leader would be of upmost importance.

Well, Mormons don't believe

Well, Mormons don't believe in the same Jesus Christ as the rest of us--check out the CrossFeed podcast episodes that have covered LDS teachings. (e.g. They reject the Trinity.) That said, I'm not convinced that he'd make a bad president and could possibly see myself voting for him. I agree that it's more about qualifications and issues than religion.
